Android gets iTunes solution? Apple buys lala.
Techcrunch reported last Friday that Apple purchased the streaming music service lala. Lala is an iTunes replacement of sorts where you can import your music from iTunes and it matches yours songs with a streaming counterpart. Essential you could take iTunes anywhere.
Last October you may remember that Google launched an integrated music search and the results were predominantly from the music service lala. So here is the big question. Will Apple's purchase of lala lead to iTunes for the android platform which google is also pushing? Their could be an interesting synergy there.
I just purchased a droid and the biggest thing missing is a robust and easy to use media package. What if Apple finally wised up and realize it would be better to be the music reseller online to all devices rather than just their own iPod and iPhone line of devices. Their piece of the online music pie is huge but that pie would be bigger if they opened up. Android has a lot of momentum and it could be in Apple's favor to sell music to all devices.

Mozilla, Skype support EFF’s case for iPhone jailbreaking

In a filling with the US Copyright Office, Mozilla and Skype have added their voices of support to a request by the Electronic Frontier Foundation for an exemption to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act related to iPhone jailbreaking.
The exemption would strip Applokoke of its ability to charge groups with DMCA violations for circumventing the Apple's security by modifying Apple's internal iPhone software, as long as they did it under the cover of "enabling interoperability," according to the exemption wording proposed by the EFF.
This is a great post!

Apple vs. Palm vs. The world. [RANT]

Backstory: Apple filed for the patent on multitouch interfaces for computing devices in 2006. They won it recently. The Palm Pre features a multitouch interface. The fight is on!
I added the world in there because touch screen technology WILL suck for a long time without multitouch technology. I don't think Apple's patent will hold up in court. Multitouch is a software development feature..these screens are OEM anyone can buy them in bulk and they are all capable of doing such things.
Why didn't the OEM obtain this patent? It seems like a fairly obvious use of something they make. Maybe they knew that it was a software patent that wouldn't hold up.
If Apple wins I'll be disappointed. I do have an iPhone. I really like it. I do think that if Multitouch is tied down to Apple the consumer WILL lose. Google and Palm should really step up to this patent and try to win it or else there will never be a true iPhone killer. Which is really bad for business and consumers.
How will the kids be able to play 2 fart sounds with a single touch interface. I'm disgusted.
Google Mobile Can’t Find The Palm Pre
TechCrunch dug this one up. It would appear that google mobile couldn't find the palm pre until google was made aware of it.
Today's JB special is a good ol' fashion Google conspiracy theory. Ingredients:
- A large "monopoly" who promises to do no evil. [check]
- A company that got their lunch eaten when they were far ahead of the competition. [check]
- A potential iPhone killer. [check]
- An excuse for JB to make a blog post. [checkeroo]
Conspiracy theorists, start your engines.
Right now if you run a Google search for “palm pre” from a mobile phone, you’ll be shown that there are 0 pages related to Palm’s upcoming smartphone, which will soon faceoff with Google’s Android, Blackberry, and the iPhone in the battle for touch-screen supremacy.

New Mac Ad, but what does it really say?
First of here's the ad.

Microsoft had a $300 million budget to advertise Windows Vista. Personally, I loved the windows ads featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates. I think the company should have rode the campaign out, but that's just me.

Ok, so what Microsoft spent $300 on advertising. Big deal they have tons of money for now right? I would be interested in seeing how much money Apple spent on advertising in comparison to development costs of OS X. I seriously searched for 30 minutes for all of these answers with no success.
Ehhhh?
